Tina suggested that we should go to the Toledo Zoo this weekend. It's been a while since all four of us have gone. They were calling for sunny but cool conditions - perfect zoo weather if you ask me.
We headed out in the morning, leaving around 9:30 AM. Traffic at the Ambassador Bridge was light. We only had to wait a minute or so. No problems at US Customs.
We stopped at Denny's in Monroe. Wow. The place had been renovated. Looks good. The boys asked and received Mac & Cheese for breakfast. Tina and I had the All-American Slam. The food was hot and tasty.
About 20 minutes or so later we arrived at the Toledo Zoo. During fall of 2008, the parking lot was expanded. Much more parking available now.
The cool weather meant that the animals were much more active. The boys were enthralled by two bird 'fighting' with each other. In the Primates exhibit, we were amused by the show put on by four Gibbons as they battled each other for some Romaine Lettuce. A dominant female would just grab the lettuce out of the hands and feet of the other Gibbons. Very amusing. A baby Gibbon moved around looking for her share. It was quite the display.
In the Gorilla exhibit, Jeremy could not believe how close the gorillas were - right at the window. After viewing the fishies and the amphibians, we grabbed some ice cream before Jeremy and I checked out the hippos and the elephants.
We saw a dominant penguin stand it's ground with another penguin.
The polar bears were pacing back and forth and I managed to get some excellent photos. The boys enjoyed the train ride. Jeremy got to see the giraffes and Corbin got to take some pictures.
It was 3:30 PM. Wow time flew by. A quick stop in the gift shop before heading home.
Canadian customs was full, but it only took about 20 minutes to get through. It was a great family outing.

Toldeo Zoo
Not wanting to do anything around the house, we decided to head to the Toledo Zoo. The weather was sunny but pleasant - perfect weather. It took a while to get through US Customs - 20 minutes or so - but no problems - as usual (it pays to have cute kids).
We decided to have breakfast at Denny's in Monroe. Much to our surprise, both boys ate their entire breakfast - guess they were hungry. We arrived at the zoo around 11:00 am. First stop was to wait in line to see the polar bear cubs. The wait wasn't too long - maybe 15 minutes - but the cubs were cute.
Before leaving, we decided to not bring the stroller, but that was a big mistake. Jeremy is not used to walking, so Tina rented a stroller. We wandered around the zoo. Jeremy seemed very interested in the animals today - he loved the primate exhibit - the monkeys and gorillas really caught his attention. I had to slightly push Jeremy to the front of the exhibits to get a better view. Corbin, on the other hand, was totally uninterested.
They had a special butterfly exhibit, where there are hundreds of butterflies flying around - sometimes landing on you. Corbin seemed to like this exhibit. Jeremy was in awe. A quick pass through the Children's Zoo and a stop at the penguin exhibit - where luck would have it - they were just about to feed the penguins. Jeremy sat on the ground and watched and watched and watched. He simply loves penguins - they are his favourite animal.
It was a nice day out with Tina and the boys.

Pucher Get Together
Headed up to Woodstock to spend the day tobogganing and hanging out with the Pucher family. The drive up was uneventful until we got to Woodstock when it started to snow. They already quite a bit of snow up there.
Unfortunately, the Kennaley's were unable to attend this year due to sickness - seems to be a lot of that going around lately. Phil Brand and his daughter (and Adam's goddaughter) Alix, did make it. We all bundled up and proceeded to climb the hill in John's backyard and take turns trying to not wipe out. Jeremy obviously comes from a place that is flat and has little snow, for his first turn down the hill was without a toboggan - he went belly down the hill. It was hilarious to watch.
Corbin went down several times. Jeremy finally found a toboggan and went down solo a few times. Other times, Corbin and Jeremy went together but Jeremy was not a big fan of the snow blowing into his face. After about an hour - it was windy and snowing - we headed in to warm up and set up for supper.
Supper was excellent - Cindy outdid herself. We cleaned up and the kids played some more. Eventually, we parted ways - it had stopped snowing, so the drive back to Windsor was incident free - until Tilbury. Seems the snow plows were out salting the 401. So it took us a wee bit longer to get to Windsor. A great day trip

Day Trip To Frankenmuth
Tina was home with the boys all week and was getting a wee bit stir crazy. We packed the boys and headed up to Frankenmuth, Michigan for a day trip. Adam wanted some saltwater taffy and fudge and Tina wanted to buy some new ornaments at Bronner's. Both of us wanted a chicken dinner.
It being after Christmas, the crowds on the main drag were light. It made for a pleasant stroll. The weather was slightly on the cool side, but there was no snow, a nice day for walking. Adam bought his taffy and fudge. We headed over to Zehnder's for an early supper, but the place busy. So we headed across the street to the Bavarian Inn. It too was busy, but the line moved quickly and after about a 10 minute or so wait, we were seated.
We decided to go with the Chicken Dinner which consisted bread and jam, chicken noodle soup, three salads, mashed potatoes, stuffing and, of course, the world famous chicken. It was a good thing that we had no lunch, because there was a lot of food. The price for the four of was reasonable - about $45 US. We even had some leftover chicken to take home. After supper, we browsed the shops.
The final stop was Bronner's, one of the largest Christmas Stores in the world. It was not busy, which was a good thing. We looked around and bought around $100 in ornaments. Headed back to Windsor as the sunset. Tina enjoyed her day out. So did the rest of the family.
